Turning life lessons from rugby into a business and making that all-important transition into the ‘real world’
Leon Lloyd is a former England international rugby player, who competed at the highest level and who has played (and survived!) against elite players such as Jonah Lomu. Leon started his working career as a professional rugby player in 1995, playing over 270 games for both Leicester Tigers and Gloucester Rugby. He scored over 100 tries during his career and has represented England at every age level, making his full debut in 2000 against South Africa.
In the years that have followed, Leon turned his lessons and experiences from rugby into transferrable skills for business, making that all-important transition into the ‘real world’. Combining his passions of sport and business, Leon went on to graduate gaining a First-Class (Hons) degree in Business Leadership and Management. His final dissertation topic focused on how sports clubs and organisations can better help prepare their athletes for life after sport. More recently, Leon graduated with an MBA, earning a Distinction grade where his thesis was again around transition and the employability traits of elite athletes.
He has since gone on to work with elite organisations that include the SAS and the Premier League.
Today, Leon shares his knowledge and experience by helping those leaving professional sport and the military to transition in to the corporate world through Centrum Solutions.
Centrum Solutions is a hybrid working solution provider to organisational culture, helping both clients and candidates to unlock their maximum potential.
Company founders, Mitch Read & Leon Lloyd have a collective 20+ years of experience in (1) elite professional sport as well as (2) in talent acquisition. This combination of knowledge is what makes Centrum Solutions unique; they have walked the same path as most of their candidates and truly understand how to move them forward with new career paths. Centrum Solutions work within multiple specialist career sectors, including professional sport and the UK Armed Forces to ensure that when their time in that area comes to an end, that they are equipped and supported in the process of finding a new venture as much is possible.
Centrum’s continuing research and experience shows that candidates from sporting and military backgrounds have not only absorbed the same experiences as with most job roles but have in fact been challenged to a greater degree, under significant pressure and succeeded. These types of skills are coveted by Centrum’s clients as a great platform to start with whilst they then develop through their professional careers.
To help their candidates, Centrum host Insight Days as an opportunity for them to showcase their transferable skills with clients who are looking to fill open vacancies. Furthermore, the environment allows them to meet and network with likeminded individuals and provide tangible outcomes.
